Preparing to Move
You have decided to sell your house. The real estate agent has been chosen. Everything is in place to get the ball rolling on the sale of your home. The house has been on the market and the buyers are calling. And in the midst of it all you need to get ready to move. How can you do that efficiently while selling your home?
Take Care of Your Responsibilities
Make sure you take care of your responsibilities as the seller. Inspections, repairs and any cosmetic repairs should be done promptly. This will keep you from having to take care of these things at the last minute when you are in the middle of moving.
Having all of the paperwork that is going to be needed on hand and ready to go will help things move along as well. You do not want to be hunting for the house title the day you are closing.
Pack It Up
Start clearing unnecessary items out of your home and put them in storage. This will have a two-fold benefit. You will be that far ahead in your packing and your house will look spacious - a plus for potential buyers.
Have a Yard Sale
Clear out closets, your garage and cupboards then hold a yard sale. This is a good way to get rid of all those items that have been gathering dust for years and earn you a few dollars as well.
Plan Ahead
Call utilities and phone companies a month before you plan to move out of the house. Arrange a date to have them taken out of your name in your current home and turned on in your new residence. Make plans for the moving truck. Booking it ahead of time can save you money.
Visit Your New Home
This can be especially important if you have children. Visit the new neighborhood and check out the schools, parks, churches and libraries. This will help with the transition when moving day actually arrives.
Throw a Party
Invite all your friends and neighbors and have a goodbye party. This allows children the opportunity to spend time with friends one last time, another good way to ease the trauma of moving.
